The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Future of Branding? My Honest Take on the Looka AI Logo Maker We all know the feeling. You have the perfect idea for a side hustle, a new blog, or a local business, but you are stuck at the first step: the logo. You consider hiring a professional designer, but the estimates come in at thousands. You check out Fiverr, but you are afraid of getting a generic clip art design that three other people already have. That is exactly the space Looka (formerly Logojoy) is trying to address. It is advertised as being able to use Artificial Intelligence to deliver you a professional brand identity in minutes for the price of a nice dinner. I spent the whole afternoon testing the platform to see if an AI can actually replace the human touch in design. What is Looka? Looka is an AI-based design tool, which can be also considered a full package for a brand's visual identity besides "just making a logo." The interesting thing is that it does not require you to have any design skills. You don't have to understand anything about hex codes, vector files, or font pairings. The AI is doing the hard work while you, basically, oversee the creative part. The Onboarding: Like a First Date with Your Brand First, you answer a few questions. Looka asks you to select logos that you like from a pre-set list to take in your style. Then, you pick a color palette (imagine "trustworthy blues" or "energetic oranges") and a few symbols that match your industry. The AI then produces a never-ending list of suggestions. The main thing that I appreciated was that these were not simply still images. While you keep scrolling, Looka presents the logos as if they were printed on business cards, t-shirts, and even the facade letters of a building. It aids you in picturing the "atmosphere" of the brand in the physical world, something that many DIY tools quite often fail to do. The Editor: Total Control (Within Reason) After choosing a base design, you get into the editor. This is the part where I was really impressed by Looka. You can modify pretty much everything: Font Pairings: It recommends font combinations that actually look good together so, for instance, you don’t accidentally mix a heavy industrial font with a delicate script. Layouts: You can, basically, flip the icon from the top of the text to the side or you can wrap the text with just one click. Symbol Library: They possess a huge library of icons that feel modern and "custom," thus, avoiding that cheap stock-photo look.

The drawback? You cannot "draw" your own shapes. You are limited to the AI-provided elements. If you have a very specific, hand-drawn image in your mind, unfortunately, Looka won't be able to reproduce it. However, for 95% of the business owners, the possibilities are more than enough. The "Brand Kit": More Than Just a Graphic Here is where Looka really justifies its cost. If you decide to subscribe to their Brand Kit, they give you 300+ assets at a click. The package consists of: Social media covers and profile pics customized for LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Email signatures. Invoices and letterheads. A "Brand Guidelines" doc that informs you about the fonts and colors your brand uses so you can maintain consistency later on.

What I Loved: The Pros Speed: Within 30 minutes, you can become a "full brand" from "no name." Professionalism: The AI has got good "taste." Being on Looka, it is difficult to produce a really ugly logo because the system imposes basic design principles. High-Res Files: When you purchase the package, you are provided with the vector files (SVG, EPS) which are the ones necessary for high-quality printing. If you ever decide to put your logo on a brick-and-mortar store or a vehicle, this is a big deal.

The Reality Check: The Cons Subscription Model: Though it is possible to just purchase the logo files at a one-time charge, the main features (the Brand Kit) is a subscription on an annual basis. Uniqueness: Despite the AI being very intelligent, it is still, after all, picking from a library of fonts and icons. It could happen that the style or concept of your logo is similar to someone else's, but considering the vast amount of combinations it is not too likely that you will come across an exact twin of your design.

The Verdict: Who is Looka For? Looka is a home run for small business owners, solo entrepreneurs, consultants who need to get it right professionally FAST without spending a fortune. On the other hand, if you are a multi-million dollar company seeking for a brand mark to tell your complex story, uniquely, and trademark-defending, then you still have to rely on a human design agency. To the rest of us? Looka is pretty much a designer in your pocket who works for pennies and never sleeps. It is a great accelerator on your way to running a top-notch ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌business.
